The institutional partners of the Cité Radieuse are prepared to share our cultural heritage with the whole world
La Direction Régionale des Affaires Culturelles Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, le Conseil Général des Bouches du Rhône et la Mairie de Marseille,
Are the institutional partners that work with the Condominium corporation of the Unité d’Habitation Le Corbusier to partially finance renovations that protect the building’s status as a historical monument.
Sharing our culture
The Cité Radieuse, the first Unité d’Habitation (housing unit) built by Le Corbusier in Marseille was classified as an UNESCO world heritage site on July 27th, 2016 along with 16 other works by Le Corbusier around the world. http://www.culturecommunication.gouv.fr/Presse/Archives-Presse/Archives-Communiques-de-presse-2012-2017/Annee-2016/L-OEuvre-architecturale-de-Le-Corbusier-une-contribution-exceptionnelle-au-Mouvement-Moderne
This classification implies respecting a set of specifications managed by a steering committee bringing together the institutional partners. This committee works to improve the access and the environment around the site. The Unité d’Habitation is also protected as a historical monument since June 20th 1986. Given its remarkable architecture, the Unité d’Habitation was accredited heritage site of the 20th century by the Ministry of the Culture, on March 1st, 2001.
On the principle that culture must be accessible to all, the residents’ association initiated on November 20th 2017 on the international children’s day, a visit by 60 students of the Grand Saint Giniez primary school.
The pupils came to discover the building, some flats and the kindergarten school. At the end of the day, every one wanted to live in the Cité Radieuse!
The Residents Association and the condominium board work together with Marseilles Tourism Office in order to best welcome and guide visitors during their visits to the Cité Radieuse.
